Q: Tell us a little about you, girl!

A: I have always loved fashion for as long as I can remember! I had a passion for designing clothes, which led me to starting Couture for Charity, my non-profit that raises funds for breast cancer initiatives, when I was 16 years old. After completing an internship with Saks Fifth Avenue’s jewelry department in NYC, I realized I also had a love for jewelry design. I started It’s Especially Lucky my senior year at UGA, when I realized I could combine my love for styling, design and branding.

Q: What inspired you to start It’s Especially Lucky?

A: I wanted to create jewelry that college students could afford without sacrificing quality. I feel as though college students think they have to settle because they have a smaller budget, but that should not be the case! You can have nice things without breaking the bank.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: I absolutely love receiving feedback so I can continually be aware of how to keep my customers happy. It’s Especially Lucky has truly become a well loved brand and is currently carried in more than 35 boutiques. It is really exciting to watch it grow.

Q: Who are your role models?

A: I have always admired my parents. They have always encouraged me to follow my passions and are my biggest supporters. They ask about It’s Especially Lucky on a daily basis and are interested in the day-to-day operations of my business.

Q: What’s the most rewarding—and most challenging—part of your work?

A: Most rewarding is when I have customers that always come back to order more jewels! I think a key to any successful business is having a steady flow of new customers but also having a good foundation of loyal returning customers.

Most challenging is when I fall in love with a design and it doesn’t sell as well as I expect. Sometimes the most popular pieces are designs I would never expect to sell out but they do.

Q: What advice do you have for women wanting to start their own business/achieve their career goals?

A. You can never be too young or too inexperienced. It is key to just go for it - and to stay true to yourself. With the presence of social media, it is easy to compare yourself to other people, but everyone has their own path and your journey is the one you are meant for.
