Q: Tell us a little about you, girl!
A: Hi! I’m Savannah. I started Picky Me in 2014 as a lifestyle and fashion blog. Creativity has always been a part of my DNA, and blogging was a great outlet. Once I graduated High School, I studied Interior Design at SCAD. My main passion shifted to design and studio, and Picky Me abruptly came to an end. However, this past June, I graduated and moved back to Atlanta. Once again, I felt the need to create. Picky Me was revived earlier this year as an online/pop-up boutique catering to the same women who have a more particular style and attention to detail.
Q: What inspired you to turn your passion into a business?
A: I've always had a lot of creative energy and needed to put it somewhere! From my Interior Design studio days, I've always enjoyed telling stories through concepts and spaces. Creating and revamping Picky Me was an exciting challenge, starting from the ground up. It's interesting to daydream about our customer's experiences and how we can fit in with their lifestyle.
Q: Describe your jewelry style.
A: My style changes all the time. When it comes to metals, I’m obsessed with gold. I love the idea of having a "Hero Piece" that saves the outfit. My go-to’s are attention-grabbing earrings that tie together my look. My favorite jewelry has been collected from travels all over the world; I'm drawn to pieces that spark conversation.
Q: What’s the most rewarding—and most challenging—part of your work?
A: The best part of Picky Me is my business partner is my Momager! Life can become an odd balance from time to time, but we complement each other well. Thankfully, our skills are the opposite of one another so we can divide and conquer business from the art direction. The hardest part about Picky Me is that this is my side hustle. I am a practicing Interior Designer by day. Therefore, my nights and weekends are dedicated to sourcing, curating, and dealing with logistics.
Q: What advice do you have for women wanting to start their own business/achieving their career goals?
A: Shopify powers our online site; I enjoy their platform and simple Instagram integration. They have lovely internal tools and a free podcast called Shopify Masters. Here, they dive into similar successful businesses to map out how they grew. They share fascinating approaches to client interactions, ways to get noticed, and behind the scenes secrets. I'm also very grateful for ATL Girl Gang, what's better than strong women supporting women?
Q: Tell us about your favorite piece!
A: My current favorite pieces are the Italian Evil Eye Glass Charms. They are delicate, yet make a great statement. The "evil eye" stares back at the world to shield away negativity/harm, and each color protects unique things, i.e., health and concentration. We share a full breakdown of the color symbology on our website. I like to wear mine on a simple chain, but it also looks great on our Booked & Busy collection.
Q: What’s next for you and Picky Me Design?
A: Picky Me is excited to grow and create a community of like-minded women. We look forward to connecting with our customers and seeing YOU wearing the pieces. Our inventory is always evolving, so stay tuned for more styles and a few specialty items!
