Hey Ladies Virtual Panel Powered By Celebrity Cruises
As you may know, we've had to postpone our first ever Hey Ladies mini-conference, but that's not stopping us! Thanks to Celebrity Cruises, our headlining sponsor, we hosted our first Virtual Hey Ladies panel last week, featuring Lindsey Johnson, co-founder of Weezie Towels, and Elizabeth Cook, founder of Domino Media Group. We chatted about how they are pivoting their businesses during this uncertain time, the importance of having a strong brand image, how to build your network and so much more. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite pieces of advice from these incredible ladies below.
Couldn’t make the panel? Good news! Purchase a ticket here and we will email you an access link to watch the full panel.
How are you pivoting your business strategy right now and have you learned anything from this situation that you’ll use moving forward?
From Lindsey: “The moment you think you’ve figured it all out, things change. We have to be really thoughtful about the way we engage with our consumers. We’re putting our consumer first and really listening to them. What do they want to hear from us today? How can we be a source of joy and comfort for them? Whether they want to purchase a product or not, we’re still here for them. For Weezie, it’s all about providing that source of joy during this time where we have to be sensitive to what everyone is going through”.
From Elizabeth: “A small silver lining for small businesses is that everybody is in the same new reality right now. If you are an innovative and flexible young brand, you can really do a lot. Small teams can make a lot of improvements in a short period of time that work to their advantage versus some of their bigger competitors. Think about your reopening strategy now and put a plan in place for what the messaging is going to be. Anything you can do to improve yourself, like taking a continuing education course, preparing a new strategy for your business or researching contacts for when we come out of this, so you have a plan in place”.
We love Weezie Towels social media and brand as a whole, how important is it to create such a powerful image for your business?
From Lindsey: “The customer experience is everything. Without a happy customer, you really don’t have anything when you’re selling a physical product. That customer experience for us starts with the moment you land on our website or the moment you land on our social media, to the entire purchase experience. Every single touchpoint we have with you, we want to make sure is cohesive and thoughtful. Regardless of what your budget is, when you’re thinking about this for your own business, I encourage you to be really thoughtful about it and make sure that what you’re bringing out there is unique and that you stand for something. We, of course, wanted to understand what consumers were looking for, but at the same time you have to make sure you have an opinion and a point of view. A strong brand image is really what makes you stand out to consumers at the end of the day”.
What are your go-to tips for building a powerful network?
From Elizabeth: “Make sure that you’re always kind to others. Remember people’s names, their spouse’s name, their children’s name. Send handwritten notes or engage with them over social. Be open to sharing resources. I think there’s enough business for everybody to go around and it’s not looking at another business as a competitor, but really thinking how you could collaborate or how this person could be an ally and on your team”.
Do you have any tips for girls listening who may have been laid off recently? Any networking tips or ways to connect with companies like yours who may or may not be hiring?
From Lindsey: “First and foremost, your career path is not meant to be linear. Careers will go left and right, up and down, forwards and backwards. It’s never permanent unless you let it be. Your life is long, you career will be long and this is just a moment in time. I think the way you use this time is really important. Having time to reflect on what it is you want to be doing can be a gift. Hustle. Don’t give up!
We hope you found these tips helpful. There’s so much more where that came from. Get access to the full panel here! Stay tuned for more Virtual Panels!
